By Chris Collinson BBC Sport statistician Four members of the Premier LeaguesBig Six – Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham – have shown signs of weakness so far this season. With a combined 49 points being taken by the four clubs from their first eight matches – much fewer than in recent seasons and the fewest between them – we all take a look. After taking just nine points from their first eight games – their lowest tally at this point since 1989 – Manchester United will be the clear culprit with this drop in points. And with just nine goals scored, it is apparent where their problems lie. Together with their youngest-ever starting XI in a Premier League season, the team have had the fifth-most shots in the match, but it is the quality of those shots which are the reason for concern. According to aims, only Newcastle have experienced worse shots on ordinary than Ole Gunnar Solskjaers young side, beyond penalties. One favorable for United fans is that while the attack is fighting to create opportunities the defence has restricted the oppositions chances, which makes it among the defences in this phase. After selling striker Romelu Lukaku on the summertime and spending 130m on Aaron Wan-Bissaka along with defenders Harry Maguire, this is possibly no real surprise. In the Premier League, Tottenham were on Valentines Day and just five points behind leaders Liverpool. However, 22 points out of 20 games because has placed some strain on the relationship between the manager, players and the club, with speak of anunsettled team along with some reportedly seeking to catch the attention of different clubs. The difficulty for Tottenham is its not one specific subject of the group that is the problem. The table below demonstrates both the defence and the strike so far are as terrible as they have been in this phase in both seasons under Mauricio Pochettino as the players like before. While we cant know for sure, this could be down. Eight players are still at the club in Pochettinos very first year in 2014-15 – in contrast to just three at Manchester City and two at Liverpool – while of the 32 supervisors at the Champions League this season, only Atletico Madrids Diego Simeone was in his club more than his fellow Argentine. With the club in the table, it might appear strange to mention that Arsenal have had problems this season. However, a goal difference of +2 indicates that all is not as comfortable as it seems, with no team having sat as large at the table together with so low a guess at that stage since Phil Browns Hull City did so with a goal difference of zero in 2008. After permitting 10-12 shots each game in each of the clubs closing 13 seasons they let over 13 under Unai Emery within their initial campaign last season. This season Arsenal are allowing a 17 shots per match, with just promoted sides Norwich and Aston Villa having faced more shots than the Gunners this season. The one consolation for Arsenal fans is that while the group has been under heavy fire this past year, they have been able to avoid the resistance from getting shots off, with just Burnley allowing chances than the side typically of Emery. So, in the past five seasons before this one three sides have allowed 17 or more shots per match – the Burnley twice of Sean Dyche and David Moyes relegated Sunderland side in 2016-17. Though many have praised Chelseas youngest-ever starting XI in a Premier League season, it has also conceded an uncharacteristic 14 targets in its eight games so far, with Southampton, Watford and only Norwich letting in more. Its just the second time in the Roman Abramovich era that double figures have been surrendered by the team following the club meltdown under Jose Mourinho saw them concede 17 goals in their first eight matches in 2015. Having saved only 48 percent of the shots keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga takes a little share of the responsibility for the clubs defensive woes and has the worst save percentage at the Premier League so much. Of those 25 goalkeepers to have played this season, just Southamptons Angus Gunn has more goals than anticipated than the Chelsea keeper. The blame cannot be laid entirely at his door. This year, only four sides have let the opposition more easy chances to score average than Chelsea, so Frank Lampard will be hoping his youthful side could make Arrizabalagas job in future.
