Kilkenny Camogie director Ann Downey has stepped in the aftermath of her third consecutive final defeat. Downey led the Cats in 2016 to All-Ireland glory, but was not able to repeat the trick. The Noresiders dropped to a six-point reduction in the hands of Galway at Croke Park on Sunday to Cork at 2017 and 2018. She made the announcement at the room after the defeat to the Tribeswomen. “Ann Downey has opted to resign from her managerial role with all the Kilkenny senior camogie team,” explained Kilkenny Camogie chairperson Sheila Norris in a statement on Monday morning. “Having completed a yearlong stint from 2008-2009 and attaining the All Ireland in 2009, she again took over the reins in 2016, bringing the group to assert that their first All Ireland in twenty two years within her very first year in charge. Three in a row National League Division 1 names were procured from 2016, 2017 and 2018 and attaining the All-Ireland final in each of the years and indeed in 2019. We also won three Leinster names. She received the accolade of manager of the year . “Kilkenny Camogie is quite grateful to Ann for time and commitment she’s given to Camogie within the last four decades.
