The newspaper alleges that some of his family, based in New Zealand, needed to cope with exactly what Stokes describes as”deeply traumatic and personal events”. Stokes, 28, who starred as England won the World Cup this summer, called the post”immoral and heartless”. The BBC has contacted the Sun to get a response. In a statement, Stokes said the narrative concerned”events from the private lives of my loved ones, going back over 31 years” and had”severe inaccuracies that has compounded the damage caused”. He also said:”The decision to release these details has grave and lifelong consequences for my mum particularly.” The Durham and England all-rounder added:”To use my own title as a excuse to shatter the privacy and private lives of – in particular – my parents would be completely disgusting. “it’s tough to locate words that adequately describe such poor and despicable behaviour, disguised as fiction. “I cannot conceive of anything more immoral, unkind or unkind to the feelings and conditions of my loved ones.” Stokes produced the match-winning innings since England’s men won their first Cricket World Cup at Lord’s in July prior to an incredible 135 not out from the third Ashes Test against Australia at Headingley last month saw England remain in contention at a series that they eventually drew 2-2. He added:”I am aware that my public profile brings with it consequences for me that I take entirely. “But I won’t allow my public profile to be used as an excuse to intrude on the rights of my parents, my spouse, my kids or other household members. They’re entitled to a private life span in their own. “For over three years, my entire family has worked hard to deal with the private trauma inevitably related to those events and has taken good care to keep confidential what were profoundly traumatic and personal events. “On Saturday the Sun delivered a’reporter’ to my parents’ home in New Zealand to question them, out of the blue, on this incredibly troubling topic. If this wasn’t bad enough, then the Sun believe it’s acceptable to sensationalise our personal tragedy to their page. “This is the cheapest type of journalism, focused only on pursuing sales with absolutely no respect for the devastation caused to lives because of this. It is totally out of order.” The background tradition! Analysis and opinion by the BBC’s cricket correspondent.
