New Zealand forwards Luke Jacobson was ruled out of this World Cup in Japan. The 22-year-old won his second All Blacks cap in last weekendcrushing of Tonga and travelled with the squad to Japan, however developed symptoms following their training session. Jacobson has been replaced with the Highlanders’ Shannon Frizell. “After discussing this latest episode with Luke, as well as our medical team, the choice has been made to, sadly, draw him from the tournament,” said New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen. “We all felt the best thing for him to do is to take a rest from rugby until he is symptom-free. “While it was a tough conversation to own, but ultimately it was a really simple choice. Luke’s wellbeing is the most significant thing over anything else” Jacobson had been one of New Zealand’s kind players at Super Rugby but he did not appear again due to concussion symptoms afterwards he made his debut against the Pumas. The former New Zealand U20 captain, who told media last month that his signs had been behind him, said he had been”gutted” to be overlooking the World Cup. “While I’m feeling 98 percent alright, I understand I am not quite right,” stated Jacobson. “By taking a break now, I’ll give myself the opportunity to continue my profession in the future.” Jacobson battled concussion at 2018 and returned after eight weeks from the match in March. He stated in April he had headaches because of”four or five months” last year. Frizell was in the original 39-man squad picked by Hansen while he played in July and since he narrowed his selections he was not included for two games against Australia. The 25-year-old was enjoying at New Zealand’s provincial contest, emerging as a lock, No 8 and flanker.
