Celtic manager Neil Lennon has commended skipper Scott Brown for tackling a”horrendous” situation out Ibrox. Brown was taunted over the passing of his sister Fiona, who died from skin cancer in 2008 following the 2-0 win over Rangers earlier this season of Celtic. A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the event, which was recorded on video. Rangers issued a life prohibit and apologised. Lennon said:”I’ve had a brief chat with him about it and I believe he handled the situation very well. “It’s unbelievably hard [not to respond ]. I don’t understand what I would have done. I am older now and Scott is mature. Five or six years ago it might have been another outcome. “I’m not sure what lad was hoping to prove or exactly what his thought process was, even when he had one at all. It’s disgusting. “I think it’s awful, horrendous. To even think about that express it, is horrendous. “I applaud Rangers to the swift action they took and the support a lot of the fans have given to Scott but it’s got to stop. There is no call for that. “We are talking not just here, at Britain today there appears to be this uprising at a lot of racism back again. It is rearing its ugly head. “We’ve got a philosophical difficulty here, we all know that. “Ninety five per cent of supporters are really good also, like Scott said, he does not head during the match, but if we are out and about around the roads seeking to live our own lives, we are not in a soccer ground. They’ve no right to abuse or insult people in that fashion.” Brown pinpointed social media as a platform that has allowed remarks and Lennon agreed. “It sometimes makes young ones believe that it’s all right,” he said. “It is not. “We have men and women in authority and players of the highest calibre requesting social media networks to clamp it down. It has to stop. “There is no accountability or responsibility for those people to put out on a public forum they would like to say. We are living in a democracy but because it is contrary to the law a line must be drawn somewhere. “These platforms enable this illegality to occur.” Lennon after locating the negativity himself came off Twitter influenced him. “I got off it,” he explained. “One, it ended a lot of the time, it played my head a bit sometimes and, three, it could be quite upsetting as well. “We’re decent human beings feel it or notthe vast majority of us, but we’re portrayed to be something different by people who do not know us. “There is a lot of good things come out of social media as well. Even the lads do a great deal of charity work or encourage charities but this underbelly leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth and may be quite upsetting for individuals.” Read more: nfl team stats for betting
